Description: Obesity currently affects more than 2 in 5 adults in the United States and demonstrates significant associations with cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes (T2D), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and steatohepatitis (MASH), osteoarthritis, sleep disorders, and reproductive health complications. Obesity care continues to evolve with advancing treatment options, emerging best practices in comorbidity management, and evidence-based guidance on patient-centered approaches, creating new opportunities to improve outcomes for patients living with obesity.

To support clinicians in comprehensive obesity management, this educational initiative will facilitate peer-to-peer learning, case-based discussions, and practical guidance through simulation-based scenarios. Participants will gain enhanced competence in recognizing and managing the relationships between obesity and a range of comorbidities, develop skills in creating individualized treatment plans that integrate evidence-based pharmacological and lifestyle interventions, and strengthen patient-centered communication strategies that support treatment adherence and improved patient outcomes.

Martine Altieri

My Cardiologist
Physician Associate

I am a foreign medical graduate and a board-certified Physician Assistant.
I received my Associate in Science in Physician Assistant from Miami Dade College, and my Master’s degree in Health Science from Nova Southeastern University, an Obesity Medicine in Primary Care Certification from AAPA/TOS. I have been a practicing PA in Florida for 13 years now, with experience in Cardiology, Obesity Medicine, Primary care, and Hospital Medicine.
I am a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and serve as peer reviewer for their journal, JAAPA, and also is the cohost of their Podcast. I am also a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Academy of Physician Associates in Cardiology, Obesity Medicine Association, Society of Hospital Medicine, and the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants.
I am passionate with preventive medicine and nutrition. My focus is to promote healthy lifestyle by encouraging and educating my patients with chronic cardiovascular disease, and I hope to help them live their best lives by giving them tools to reach their goals.
I have been a lead APC in hospital medicine and I have represented hospitalist PAs on a national APC council. I am one of the inaugural board members of PAs in Obesity Medicine, appointed Director at Large.
I enjoy traveling, when I am not supporting my 8 y/o son’s soccer team, or my 10 y/o daughter at a swim meet alongside my husband of 16 years.
I am excited to take part in educating medical providers in obesity medicine and help combat the growing obesity epidemic in America.
